Sometime in 2010, a blogger friend Abubakar Jamil asked me to write a post about what advice I’d give to my younger self or what I might have done differently, as a part of a series he was asking bloggers to contribute to in aid of a bigger project.
I was excited at the thought of revisiting my past with fresh eyes and accumulating the lessons learned, so I happily agreed. As it turns out, that has been the (updated: second most) most popular post here to date. And one of my absolute favourites as well. You can read it here.
Abu and Farnoosh (another fave blogger friend & author of the hugely popular Prolific Living) scoured through about 108 posts about life lessons and compiled a lesson from each into a beautiful, touching and heartwarmingly inspiring free eBook.
To access the Life Lessons eBook, click on the image below (it will take you to Abubakar’s site, where you can hit the “download” button midway through the post to get your copy).
Each gem in there has helped change a perspective, brightened someone’s day, made someone think, encouraged someone, helped someone get past a fear, unblocked barriers, inspired someone and made them laugh.
So I’m doing my part in sharing the wisdom and beauty of this amazing collaboration with you.
There’s no sign up box, simply click on the picture and follow instructions to download your very own stash of inspiration!
Huge kudos to all the bloggers, Farnoosh and Abubakar for bringing this together.
I hope you enjoy reading as much as we enjoyed writing it! And do share it with others, won’t you? 🙂

What would I tell my younger self if I had the chance?! Do this sooner! Do it NOW!!! Why wait?!

Dude, I say that to my self even now! And tomorrow, I’ll be saying “shoulda done it sooner!” LOL!

I would tell my younger self, “don’t feel so bad about being a late bloomer. You blossom in your own good time!” When I turned 40 last year, I felt in insatiable urge to blossom as I had never done before…and it’s an amazing journey! I wish my 20-year-old self could have seen what was ahead. It would have inspired her to be less afraid. 🙂

Hey I’m with ya, late blooming 101. Always thought I was a late bloomer on career terms but now I see I was right on track living an unconventional life 🙂 Although.. I sense potential in a course for late bloomers! The good thing is Laurie, you learned a lot through your fears and can now inspire other young people as a result.

That your 30’s are so much more peaceful, centering, successful, and rewarding than 20’s. I accomplished quite a lot in my 20’s, but it felt like directionless, hell on wheels. In my 30’s I feel a certain sense of calm that I already have all the knowledge in me I will ever possibly need to get me through any circumstance that comes my way.
I bet my 40’s will rock.
Tia says
Oh yes, yes, yes is that EVER true Susan!! Love my 30’s, if I was the person in my 20’s that I am now, I’d OWN the world. LoL. Well, that’s ok cos I own it now 😉 Although, I still feel a little directionless sometimes, but on the whole there IS a sense of “whatever happens will be perfect and life rocks” that wasn’t there last decade. YAY!! Thanks for sharing, made me smile 🙂

This came in via email from a wonderful reader Tiffany:
“”I’d tell myself to STOP pleasing others and be honest. They’ll love you even MORE for it :)””
Well said young lady, thanks for sharing!!
